Each day a bird named Penelope visited a turtle named Mr. Tortue. Each day she rapped on his shell.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Come out and play, Mr. Tortue!" Penelope would call.

But Mr. Tortue always said,

"No, no, no!"

"Mr. Tortue," called Penelope one morning. "Come out and play. I've learned a new song, and we can sing it all day."

 

매일 페넬로페라는 새가 Mr. Tortue라는 거북이를 방문했습니다. 매일 그녀는 그의 껍질을 두드렸다.

노크! 노크! 노크!

"나와서 놀아요, Tortue 씨!" 페넬로페가 외쳤다

"I have to organize the inside of my shell. There are newspapers and magazines everywhere. It's a mess!

Now is not the time."

"Too bad," said Penelope, and she flew away.

The next day Penelope returned to the tree stump where Mr. Tortue sat hidden in the grass.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Come out and play, Mr. Tortue!" said Penelope.

"I've found some very funky hats! We can play dress-up and pretend we're famous."

"No, no, no!" said Mr. Tortue. "I can barely read anything in this dark shell. I have light bulbs to change. Now is not the time!"

"Too bad," said Penelope, and off she flew.

The next day Mr. Tortue waited for Penelope's daily

Knock! Knock! Knock!

 

다음날 페넬로페는 토르츄 씨가 풀밭에 숨어 앉아 있던 나무 그루터기로 돌아왔습니다.

노크! 노크! 노크!

"나와서 놀아요, Tortue 씨!" 페넬로페가 말했다.

"아주 펑키한 모자를 찾았어요! 옷입히기 놀이도 하고 유명한 척도 할 수 있어요."

"아니, 아니!" Tortue 씨가 말했습니다. "이 어두운 껍질 속에서는 거의 아무것도 읽을 수 없습니다. 전구를 바꿔야 합니다. 지금은 때가 아닙니다!"

"안됐군요." 페넬로페는 말하고는 날아갔습니다.

다음날 Tortue 씨는 Penelope의 매일을 기다렸습니다.

But it never came. He waited the next day and the day after that. Weeks went by, and still he did not hear anything. Then suddenly,

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Mr. Tortue! Are you home? Come out and play!"

"Could it be?" thought Mr. Tortue. "Where have you been?" he asked.

"T've been to South America," said Penelope.

"And I've learned to dance the tango! If you like, I can teach it to you, and we can dance the whole afternoon!"

At first Mr. Tortue did not reply. He just stared at the clutter inside his dark shell. Then finally he said,

"оК, оК, ОК!"

For the rest of the day, Penelope and Mr. Tortue wore their funky hats, sang songs, and danced the tango. And they had an unforgettable time!
