"Happy Valentine's Day," Turtle said to Mouse.

"I'm glad you came to my party." He handed her a bag of gummy hearts. They were Mouse's favorite treat.

"Thanks," Mouse replied. She glanced around the room and did not see anyone she knew. All at once, Mouse felt shy. She sat down by herself on a bench near the coat rack.

 

"해피 밸런타인데이." 거북이가 마우스에게 말했습니다.

"당신이 내 파티에 와줘서 기뻐요." 그는 그녀에게 젤리 하트 봉지를 건네주었습니다. 그것은 마우스가 가장 좋아하는 간식이었습니다.

"고맙습니다." 마우스가 대답했습니다. 그녀는 방을 둘러보았지만 아는 사람이 아무도 없었습니다. 갑자기 마우스는 부끄러움을 느꼈습니다. 그녀는 옷걸이 근처 벤치에 혼자 앉았습니다.

Before long, a gray squirrel joined Mouse on the bench. Mouse thought it would be fun to make a new friend. She wanted to tell Squirrel a joke, but her tongue seemed stuck. She twisted her tail.

It twirled around like a lasso and knocked a hat off the coat rack.

Mouse set her candy on the bench and jumped down to pick up the hat.

"At least hats don't break," Squirrel joked. "Want me to put that back?" He stood to hang the hat on the coat rack, then sat again.

Mouse smiled at Squirrel. But the smile froze on her face. Squirrel was opening the bag of gummy hearts.

 

얼마 지나지 않아 회색 다람쥐 한 마리가 벤치에 앉아 쥐와 합류했습니다. 마우스는 새로운 친구를 사귀는 것이 재미있을 것이라고 생각했습니다. 그녀는 다람쥐에게 농담을 하고 싶었지만 혀가 막힌 것 같았습니다. 그녀는 꼬리를 비틀었다.

Mouse wanted to tell Squirrel that the gummy hearts belonged to her. Then she thought about Valentine's Day. It was a day meant for sharing.

She would be nice and share her treat with Squirrel.

Mouse's whiskers twitched as she watched

Squirrel eat the yellow hearts.

"The red.. the red gummy hearts taste like cherries," Mouse finally stammered. "May I please have one?" She really liked that flavor.

Squirrel paused for a moment. Then he offered the bag to Mouse. "You can have all the red hearts," he said, smiling. "I like the lemon best. They're tangy and sour. In the summer, I'm going to have a lemonade stand and sell tangy lemonade."

 

마우스는 다람쥐에게 젤리 하트가 자신의 것이라고 말하고 싶었습니다. 그런 다음 그녀는 밸런타인데이에 대해 생각했습니다. 나눔을 의미하는 하루였습니다.

"I like riding my bike in the summer," Mouse said. "I'll visit your lemonade stand. Where do you live?"

"In the oak tree by the river bend," Squirrel replied. He started eating the orange and green hearts. "Do you like swimming?"

"Yes, and I like making paper boats, too," Mouse said. She told Squirrel about her paper boats as she ate the purple hearts.

Soon the candy bag was empty.

"Want to get some punch?" Squirrel asked.

He stood up.

Mouse gasped. She spied another bag of gummy hearts. It had been on the bench hiding under Squirrel's bushy tail: The tag on the bag said:

To Mouse from Turtle.

 

마우스는 "나는 여름에 자전거 타는 것을 좋아한다"라고 말했다. "당신의 레모네이드 가판대를 방문하겠습니다. 당신은 어디에 사시나요?"

"강 굽이 옆 떡갈나무에 있어요." 다람쥐가 대답했어요. 그는 주황색과 녹색 하트를 먹기 시작했습니다. "수영 좋아해?"

"I didn't mind sharing."

"Oh no!" Mouse squeaked. *I ate half of your candy."

Squirrel chuckled. *I didn't mind sharing. It's Valentine's Day!*

"Please have some of my hearts with me," said Mouse.

She was glad they had another bag of candy to eat together. Sharing gummy hearts made it easy to share stories, and Mouse still had a lot to tell Squirrel!

 

"나는 나누는 하는 것을 꺼리지 않았습니다."

"안 돼!" 마우스가 삐걱거렸다. *내가 네 사탕을 반이나 먹었어."

다람쥐는 웃었다. *나누는 데에는 지장이 없었습니다. 밸런타인데이입니다!*

마우스는 "제 마음을 좀 가져주세요"라고 말했습니다.

그녀는 함께 먹을 수 있는 사탕 한 봉지가 더 있어서 기뻤습니다. 젤리 하트를 공유하면 이야기를 더 쉽게 나눌 수 있었고, 마우스는 여전히 다람쥐에게 할 말이 많았습니다!
