The Brave Knight

 
The Brave Knight had never rescued anyone.
He was afraid of the dark. His stomach flip-flopped when his horse galloped over the drawbridge that led across the river to the fields beyond.

The Brave Knight was not so sure he was brave.

"You must be brave," exclaimed the people in the kingdom. "You are the only one who's ever met the dragon!"

But the Brave Knight knew the truth.

A year ago, on a sunny day, he left the castle.
The castle was built on a mountain. He climbed the rocky cliffs and discovered the dragon's cave. He caught a glimpse of the dragon's huge body. Loud snores came from the sleeping giant.

The Brave Knight shook.
And he scrambled back down the mountain as fast as he could go.

용감한 기사는 아무도 구하지 않았다.
그는 어둠을 두려워했다. 그의 말이 강을 가로질러 저 너머의 들판으로 이어지는 도개교를 질주했을 때 그의 배가 뒤집혔다.

He wasn't brave. He was afraid of the dragon, just as everyone else was.

Then, one day, something awful happened.

The drawbridge fell into the river. The bridge was the only way to reach the lands on the other side.
Those fields supplied all of the castle's food.

그는 용감하지 않았어. 그는 다른 모든 사람들과 마찬가지로 용을 두려워했다.
도개교가 강으로 떨어졌다. 그 다리는 반대편에 있는 땅에 도달할 수 있는 유일한 방법이었다.

No one knew what to do.
"I have an idea!" said the king. "I'll use my canoe."
He put the canoe into the river. But the canoe leaked.The princess had to throw a rope to the king to rescue him.

The king tried to use a ladder to cross the river. But the ladder was too short, and it crashed into the water.
After a week without a drawbridge, the kingdom was in trouble.
"The only food left is two jars of my famous pickles and the princess's applesauce!" said the king's cook.

The Brave Knight thought. He knew of something that could reach across the river. He gulped. "Wait here," he told everyone.

He needed a peace offering. I hope this will do, he thought, taking a jar of the cook's delicious pickles.
He climbed the mountain. His stomach flip-flopped. He tiptoed to the cave.

"나 아이디어 있어!" 왕이 말했다. "나는 나의 카누를 사용할거야"
그는 카누를 강에 넣었다. 하지만 카누가 물이 새었다.
공주는 그를 구하기 위해 왕에게 밧줄을 던져야 했다.

The dragon was awake. He looked directly at the knight and opened his mouth wide. The Brave Knight trembled.
CRUNCH!
The Brave Knight couldn't believe his eyes. The dragon was chewing on a tree branch.
The dragon burped.

용은 깨어 있었다. 그는 기사를 직접 보고 입을 크게 벌렸다. 용감한 기사는 떨었다.

용감한 기사는 그의 눈을 믿을 수 없었다. 용은 나뭇가지를 씹고 있었다.

"So, you're not a people eater!" whispered the Brave Knight. "Here, try this." The Brave Knight took out one pickle and placed it on the ground.

The dragon ate it. He ate another. The Brave Knight petted the dragon's bumpy skin. The beast gave him a slimy lick on the cheek.

"We need your help," said the Brave Knight. "Will you come with me?"

The Brave Knight climbed back down the mountain. The dragon followed him.
When they entered the castle gardens, people screamed. The other knights mounted their horses.
"Be gone, beast!" shouted the king.
"Wait! He can help!" said the Brave Knight.


"그래서, 넌 사람을 잡아먹는 사람이 아니야!" 용감한 기사에게 속삭였다. "여기, 이거 해봐." 용감한 기사는 피클 하나를 꺼내 땅에 놓았다.

The Brave Knight held out a pickle for the dramon
He whispered into the dragon's ear, "Can you be our bridge?"

The dragon bobbed his scaly head. He stretched all the way across the river, where the drawbridge used to be.

The Brave Knight climbed up on the dragon's tail and walked along the dragon's back. "Thank you," he said.

When he returned from the other side of the river carrying food, the people cheered.

Then they all crossed the river. First the king and then the rest. They all returned to the castle with more food.

That evening, the king's cook made a feast.

The Brave Knight sat with the dragon, feeding him pickles one by one. Maybe, he thought, I am a little bit brave after all.
